A New Orleans Police Department recruit was taken into custody by federal immigration agents less than a week before his scheduled police academy graduation.

Larry Temah, a Cameroon national, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in New Orleans over an active deportation order, officials said.
The arrest comes amid a broader federal immigration enforcement push under the Trump administration targeting individuals living in the United States without legal status under an aggressive deportation policy.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees ICE, said Temah did not have valid work authorization and was in the country without legal immigration status.
