(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said a suspect was reaching for a shotgun in a patrol car when an officer shot her in the evening hours of Saturday, Jan. 31.
According to CSPD, on Jan. 31 at around 10 p.m., police were called to the area near Marion Drive and Delaware Drive, located near North Academy Boulevard. Police were told it was a disturbance between two people, possibly involving a rifle.

When police arrived, they found a woman later identified as 30-year-old Micaela Pasillas, who matched the description of one of the suspects, but she was not carrying a rifle as described. CSPD said Pasillas was carrying a large knife. When police tried to contact Pasillas, she ran from police and refused commands from officers to stop.
Pasillas dropped the knife, then entered the front seat of a police cruiser and attempted to drive away, according to CSPD. Officers commanded her to leave the vehicle, then tried to remove her from the driver’s seat physically.
While officers were trying to pull Pasillas out of the car, an officer on the passenger side of the cruiser allegedly saw her reaching for the duty shotgun. At that time, the officer on the passenger side of the cruiser fired through the window three times, hitting Pasillas at least twice…
