HONOLULU (Island News) — Heavy rain is affecting the Hawaiian Islands today as a strong weather system moves across the state.
This system is bringing unstable weather, which means frequent showers and some very heavy downpours. The islands of Niihau, Kauai, and Oahu are seeing the most rain right now, and flooding is a serious concern.
A Flood Watch remains in effect through this afternoon for Niihau, Kauai, and Oahu because heavy showers continue to move over the same areas. Flash Flood Warnings are also in effect this morning for parts of Oahu and Kauai. On Oahu, heavy rain has been falling over the Koolau Mountains, especially between Maunawili and Hauula. Rainfall rates have reached two to four inches per hour, with some spots seeing even higher amounts.
