Waterford Daycare Owner Charged In $3K Childcare Fraud Case

Jason Wellington, 48, of Waterford — owner of Joyful Beginnings daycare — was arrested Thursday, Feb. 12 and charged with two counts of grand larceny and 11 counts of offering a false instrument for filing, all felonies, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators allege Wellington submitted billing to the county in 2025 for childcare services he claimed to provide in Waterford but did not actually perform. The alleged scheme resulted in more than $3,000 in losses on two separate occasions.

Wellington was arraigned in Ballston Spa Village Court and released on his own recognizance pending further proceedings. The charges are not considered qualifying offenses for bail under New York’s 2020 bail reform law, authorities notes…
