Man charged with speeding for role in fatal crash on I-440, police say

A driver crashed into a vehicle that struck and killed a man standing on the outside shoulder of Interstate 440 in Raleigh Friday night, according to a preliminary investigation by the Raleigh Police Department.

Raleigh police charged Jack Neville with misdemeanor death by vehicle, exceeding a safe speed for conditions and failure to reduce speed, the agency said in a Saturday afternoon statement. He is accused of killing Eduardo Valdez.

Before Neville crashed Friday night, several vehicles were involved in an earlier collision on Interstate 440 West near the Glen Eden Drive overpass, police said. All vehicles moved to the shoulder, where Raleigh police officers and a towing service were completing crash documentation…
