What street name could be more joyful and evocative of springtime* than Spring Garden Street? This house is located at 907 Spring Garden, almost at the corner of Mendenhall. This four bedroom/two bath single family dwelling, with the big front porch, was built in 1910. One hundred and sixteen years later, it still has good bones and the College Hill neighborhood is still walkable. Greensboro College, UNCG, and several little shops are easily within walking distance.
While not as obvious on an overcast day, when it is sunny, that yellow front door adds such a welcoming touch to the entrance. The magnolia tree to the right adds a touch of southern charm. Most inviting of all is the front porch with four rocking chairs. We are imagining four friends sitting on the porch, each reading a used book that they purchased from the indie bookstore, Secondhand Books, just across the street. This is a part of town to watch. We’re hoping the long, extended, added-on-to, white house/structure on the northeast corner of Spring Garden and Mendenhall gets brought back to life. Then, the corner will really be lively. At one time, that building was a residence, a magic shop, a coffee shop, and more. We’ll keep our eye on it. Stop by and have a look!
Happy Saturday; happy exploring…
