Panhandle under ‘water shortage warning’ due to drought conditions

The state of Florida has found itself in the grasp of a drought, and it could be awhile before relief arrives.

In response to the unfolding crisis, and with an eye toward what is anticipated to come, the governing board of the Northwest Florida Water Management District has issued a water shortage warning for the 16-county region that it oversees, which include Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

Effective immediately, the order, published on the District’s website, requests residents to “reduce water use and to conserve water to the maximum extent possible.”…
