CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) – Along Old Hundred Road sits an empty plot of land and a few abandoned buildings, but this landscape will soon change as work starts on a new fire station in Chester.
The new facility will replace the current building for Fire Station One, which has been serving the Chester area for decades. However, Capt. Joe Harvey said the building is due for an upgrade.
“When this station was built in 1962, the station wasn’t really built for 24-hour operation,” Capt. Harvey said.
Capt. Harvey said space is becoming limited inside the existing building.
“We’re really pigeon-holed when it comes to what pieces of apparatus we can assign here. We have units currently right now that will not fit in this fire station,” Harvey said…
