Jury reaches verdict for former Rockford police officer on trial for domestic violence

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A jury came to a verdict on Thursday in the case of an off-duty Rockford police officer accused of battering his girlfriend back in November 2024.

On Feb. 19, a jury found 33-year-old Tyler Helgerson guilty of a misdemeanor domestic battery charge and not guilty on charges of aggravated domestic battery/strangulation and unlawful restraint.

The jury deliberated for just over three hours before returning with their verdict. The trial lasted two days…
