Portland company recalls Trader Joe’s chicken fried rice over possible glass contamination

A Portland-based food manufacturer is recalling more than 3.3 million pounds of frozen chicken fried rice products that may be contaminated with glass, federal officials announced.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said Thursday that the recall affects approximately 3,370,530 pounds of frozen, not-ready-to-eat chicken fried rice produced by Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc., a supplier based in Southeast Portland.

The affected products were produced between Sept. 8, 2025, and Nov. 17, 2025.

Products included in the recall

  • 1.53-kilogram cardboard packages containing six bags of frozen “Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-style Fried Rice,” with best-before dates ranging from Sept. 9, 2026, through Nov. 12, 2026.
  • 20-ounce plastic bags of frozen “Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice with stir fried rice, vegetables, seasoned dark chicken meat and eggs,” with best-by dates ranging from Sept. 8, 2026, through Nov. 17, 2026.
