Loudonville man charged after allegedly reaching for state trooper’s gun

BETHLEHEM, N.Y. (NEWS10) — New York State Police arrested a Loudonville man on Thursday following a drunk driving investigation. Joseph Anthony Milot III, 43, is facing numerous charges.

State Police responded to reports of an impaired driver traveling near Exit 22 on State Route 144 in Bethlehem around 2 p.m. on February 19. Troopers arriving to the area found Milot behind the wheel of a disabled Cadillac on River Road in Selkirk.

According to investigators, a breath test determined that Milot reportedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.23% at the time of the stop. After being taken into custody, Milot allegedly tried to grab a trooper’s loaded firearm from its holster while being processed by State Police.

Milot was then immediately subdued without any law enforcement officers being injured. He now faces the following charges:

  • Second-degree attempted criminal possession weapon
  • Driving while intoxicated
  • Aggravated driving while intoxicated with a BAC of 0.18% or more
  • Resisting arrest
  • Second-degree obstructing governmental administration

Milot was arraigned at Colonie Town Court and held at the Albany County Jail on a $50,000 cash bail while the investigation remains ongoing. He’s expected to return to Colonie Town Court on February 23 in regard to the weapon incident, and is slated to appear at the Town of Bethlehem Court on April 7 in relation to the DWI charges.
