Amarillo College board chair holds press conference to discuss audit

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Amarillo College leaders say a recent forensic audit found no missing money and concluded the college is in “excellent fiscal condition” and is “quickly building their reserves,” even as the review identified concerns about financial oversight and reporting.

Board of Regents Chairman Jay Barrett held a press conference Friday afternoon to discuss the audit and the circumstances that led to it. Barrett said the board was left in the dark by former Vice President of Business Affairs Chris Sharp.

Sharp was placed on administrative leave in October pending a financial investigation. In November, Sharp resigned. In a statement first sent to ABC7, Sharp claimed he was forced to resign. Barrett addressed that claim Friday, saying Sharp “voluntarily chose to resign while on paid administrative leave.”…
