Riverside Terrace residents fight plans for new convenience store, cite crime concerns

HOUSTON — Residents in Houston’s Riverside Terrace neighborhood are pushing back against plans to open another convenience store in their community, citing concerns about crime and public safety at similar businesses already operating in the area.

State Rep. Jolanda Jones hosted a town hall meeting on the issue, where neighbors voiced opposition to a proposed store on the corner of Southmore and Live Oak. Jones says the area already has enough convenience stores and describes them as magnets for crime.
