Batavia Chiropractor Hit With 76-Count Hidden Camera Indictment

A Batavia chiropractor is now at the center of one of Kane County’s most sprawling criminal cases, after a grand jury on Friday returned a 76-count indictment accusing him of secretly recording more than 180 patients inside his Wilson Street clinic. Prosecutors say the videos, many apparently from a red-light therapy room, capture victims ranging from young children to adults, and that some of the footage was later shared online.

The indictment against David Hanson lists 19 counts of creating child sexual abuse material, 24 counts of disseminating child sexual abuse material, one count of reproducing child sexual abuse material, 22 counts of possessing child sexual abuse material and 10 counts of unauthorized video recording, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office. The office also notes that 16 of those counts specifically accuse Hanson of distributing videos recorded at Hanson Family Chiropractic.

Hanson, 43, who owns Hanson Family Chiropractic, was arrested on Nov. 6, 2025, and is being held at the Kendall County Jail, NBC Chicago reported. Investigators say they seized electronic evidence and uncovered hidden cameras placed throughout the practice, with many recordings appearing to come from a room used for red-light and near-infrared therapy, as reported by the Chicago Tribune. Officials say they have received hundreds of calls and emails to a victims’ hotline as they work to identify and notify people who may have been captured on the videos.

What the charges mean

Many of the counts against Hanson are Class X felonies, the most serious felony category in Illinois, which can carry prison terms of 6 to 30 years, and prosecutors say the alleged conduct stretches from Jan. 1, 2016, through Nov. 5, 2025, according to reporting in the Kane County Chronicle. The indictment further alleges that some of the footage was disseminated online and that investigators currently believe Hanson acted alone in the alleged scheme.

Victims, lawsuits and resources

At least one family has already filed a civil lawsuit accusing Hanson of secretly recording both children and adults in treatment rooms at the clinic, and attorneys say more claims are likely, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Authorities are urging anyone who believes they, or a minor in their care, may have been recorded to contact the Kane County victim hotline at 630-444-3322 or email [email protected] for help and information, and local outlets have been repeatedly sharing those details…
