VIDEO: Albuquerque man pulls out gun at senior center

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It was a chaotic scene at an Albuquerque senior center when a man yelled threats and then flashed a gun. New video shows what the staff says led up to that moment and the suspect’s lengthy criminal history.

What started as a threat quickly turned into a crime for an Albuquerque man. But this wasn’t his first run-in with the law. Albert Rival, 65, was a member at the North Valley Senior Center, but staff had to call the police, saying he took things too far.

Employees at the senior center went on to say Rival regularly steals food and begs for money from other seniors. But things escalated when Rival started yelling threats as both seniors and staff confronted him, asking him to leave. Yelling that he would “Put you six feet under,” he pulled out a gun.

Rival held the weapon in a low position, then hid it behind his back. He ran away shortly after, but police were able to spot him within a few blocks. Rival has a lengthy criminal history ranging from burglary to assault. He recently spent 21 years in prison for second-degree murder but was released in 2024…
