ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Kayla Clark owns the only woman-owned motorcycle repair shop in the state. She opened Mechanica Restoration and Design on 4th and Menaul in Albuquerque earlier this month after seeing a real need in the community.
Clark made it her mission to open up a non-judgmental space for people from all walks of life to feel comfortable coming in to get their bikes repaired. “I’ve seen a need for this in the industry as a whole,” Clark said. “I’ve worked in shops, I’ve worked in the automotive industry, and to be able to see non-judgmental spaces is important. So I wanted to provide that myself.”
She’s seen and heard from clients who have sometimes felt taken advantage of in a male-dominated field or hobby. So for decades, she thought about how she could help fix the problem. A couple of weeks ago, when she opened Mechanica Restoration and Design, her dream became a reality.

“When people walk into my shop, I want them to feel like they can approach their motorcycle service with confidence, and that transparency through the process is given to them so they know what’s going on with their bike,” Clark said. “I also want people to feel empowered.”…
