Rain causes wastewater overflow at Ahuimanu Preliminary Treatment Facility

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – City crews are responding to a wastewater overflow at the Ahuimanu Preliminary Treatment Facility (PTF) caused by the heavy rainfall, officials said.

The Honolulu Department of Environmental Services (ENV) said that at around 10 a.m. Saturday, elevated flows overwhelmed PTF and caused a manhole at the facility to overflow into an on-site retention basin containing stormwater runoff.

Officials said the basin then exceeded capacity and discharged into Ahiumanu Stream. The total volume discharged into the stream is currently being determined…
