Lowcountry group says ‘Silence Is Not an Option’: Safeguarding our United States history

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — The Silence is Not an Option group joined together to discuss the importance of safeguarding our nation’s history, especially at National Parks and historical sites.

The message was clear from our Lowcountry community: history matters, and fighting to protect that history makes for a better future.

“Important to recognize where we’ve come from, the contributions, the struggles, the triumphs that have helped to make this country great in a very profound way. And so we didn’t all get here in the same way, but we are here with each other right now, and so being able to honor your experience and your family’s experience, my experience and my family’s experience is I think the way that we come together as Americans,” Alan Spears, senior director for cultural resources at the National Parks Conservation Association, said…
