Fire Damages Wat Amphawan Temple on Barfield Crescent Road

MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) – Rutherford County Fire Rescue responded just before 1:00 o’clock Friday afternoon (2/20/2026) to a fire at the Wat Amphawan of America Temple at 4880 Barfield Crescent Road. Crews arrived to find smoke drifting from the eaves and flames visible on the front porch. Firefighters moved quickly, knocking down the fire before it could spread deeper into the structure.

The Rutherford County Fire Marshal’s Office conducted a routine investigation once the scene was secure. Officials say the fire was accidental, but the building still suffered extensive damage. Only one person was inside at the time, and they were able to get out safely.

Wat Amphawan is the Thai Buddhist temple that serves as a spiritual home for Thai Americans, Lao and Cambodian families, and anyone drawn to meditation, mindfulness, or the gentle rhythm of Theravada Buddhist practice. Visitors often describe the temple as peaceful and beautifully maintained, a place where monks lead chanting, children learn cultural traditions, and community meals spill out onto the porch and gathering areas—ironically, the same porch where today’s fire began…
