Iconic Broadway Shows Canceled Amid Massive Winter Storm

In preparation for a massive winter storm, Broadway theaters have been forced to cancel a handful of shows on Sunday evening. While the theaters had initially intended to remain open, with reports surrounding the impending blizzard worsening, the Broadway League reversed their previous decision.

As of this morning, all Broadway shows with curtain times past 3 p.m. have been canceled, with the exception of the musical Operation Mincemeat, which was still originally on for 7:30 p.m. Operation Mincemeat, a spy thriller musical comedy, debuted in March of 2025. Production was hoping to continue as scheduled, as it would have been the last show ever to be performed by the original cast. Unfortunately, as of 1 p.m., the Broadway League confirmed that the show would also be canceled due to safety protocols.

The incoming snowstorm has been forecast to produce over 24 inches of snow over the New York City metropolitan area throughout Sunday evening and Monday. Accompanied by heavy winds and a wintry mix, the National Weather Service predicted the blizzard could be the biggest snowfall the city has seen in over a decade.

Among the shows that have been canceled are new productions, including revival shows of Chess and Ragtime, as well as Every Brilliant Thing with Daniel Radcliffe. Mainstay shows have also been canceled due to the unprecedented weather event, including Broadway hits like Wicked, The Lion King and Aladdin
