Officials recognize ‘heroic service’ with awards for OK County jail staff

For all its troubles with staffing, understaffing, lawsuits, detainee deaths and other problems, heroes work in the Oklahoma County jail, the top jailer said, and they’ve gone unrecognized.

Administrator Tim Kimrey took a step toward correcting that recently by presenting what he called the Lifesaving Award for Professional Responders “in recognition of heroic service to the Oklahoma County Criminal Justice Authority” to several jail staff members.

He gave no specifics but said that “several recent events” involved CPR, the use of NARCAN, which reverses the effects of opioid overdose, “and other medical means and technology.”…
