JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Forty-two years ago, on February 20, 1984, Jackson Mayor Dale Danks began the process that resulted in the mayor-council form of government we know today.

Back then, the city was governed by the mayor and two city commissioners, who were elected at-large.

Danks formed an advisory committee to study whether that should change, and ultimately, Jackson voters decided to switch to the mayor-council system, with council members being elected by voters in the wards they represent…
