Family and friends lay CBS2 Chief Meteorologist Roland Steadham to rest

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Family and friends laid CBS2 Chief Meteorologist Roland Steadham to rest on Saturday in a private ceremony beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Roland and his friend Dallin Laufenberg were killed in an airplane crash on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. A preliminary investigation report released by the NTSB says the airplane was flying low over the Payette River near the Black Canyon Reservoir when the rear landing gear hit a power line.

Roland’s loss has left an indelible hole in the newsroom. His wisdom, experience, and steady hand have been missed every day since his passing. The National Weather Service said that Roland was a “Calm voice during the storm,” and “a true professional who shared our mission to protect life and property.”…
