ALBUQUERQUE — Around 5 am Feb. 19, Democratic Party of New Mexico Headquarters was broken into and burglarized. Security footage from DPNM cameras and a nearby business showed that an individual smashed through the front door, entered the office, grabbed a handful of items, and then ran off. Staff discovered the break-in upon showing up for work later in the morning.
DPNM staff were still taking stock of the damage and inventorying the items in the office as of Feb. 20.
“Although our team is very troubled by this, we’re glad no one was in the office at the time of the break-in,” Democratic Party of New Mexico spokesperson Daniel Garcia said. “There’s no telling why this person broke into our office, but in these times of heightened political rhetoric, we can’t rule out the possibility it could have been politically motivated. Democratic Party offices across the country have been vandalized recently. Whatever the motivation was, we have to repair the damage, clean up the mess, and help our team recover missing items.”…
