The smell of barbecue and the promise of big donations for children’s charities filled a block of downtown Charleston as Home Team BBQ hosted its ninth annual Rock the Block fundraiser near Williman Street Saturday.
The event brings together chefs and vendors offering special dishes, and organizers said it has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for children in need.
Among the participants was Vandy Walker of Maison French Bistro, who said he was serving “the classic American patty melt and putting a French spin on it using a French country pate in place of the ground beef in a classic American.”…
