Driver Clocked At 112 MPH Arrested On Drug Offenses, JCSO Says

JOHNSTON COUNTY — What began as a high-speed traffic stop ended with felony drug charges against a Wilmington man.

On Feb. 17, a deputy with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office SAFE team was traveling on Interstate 40 near Veterans Parkway when he observed a vehicle allegedly traveling 112 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone.

The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was identified as Markyes Deshuan Jones, 32, of Wilmington in New Hanover County.

During the stop, deputies reportedly located approximately 97 grams of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Authorities also seized $2,810 in cash found in the car, according to a report…
