WATCH: Railroad bridge collapses after early morning fire in west Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A nearly century-old railroad bridge in west Lincoln collapsed following a fire Monday morning.

LFR responded at 3:45 a.m. Monday to the railroad bridge over Salt Creek by Westgate and Sun Valley boulevards near Pinnacle Bank Arena. The bridge is owned by Union Pacific and consists of heavy timber.

LFR spokesperson, MJ Lierman, said fire trucks had trouble getting to the flames on the bridge due to the location and limited weight capabilities. A brush rig was also requested to help put out a grass fire that had started and was quickly spreading around the bridge…
