Months-long closures loom as TxDOT pushes forward with Loop 1604 revamp

Come Monday, navigating San Antonio at two very busy stretches of highway is going to look different. As state contractors continue their yearslong effort to transform Texas’ biggest, and most congested, highway loop, some closures may have some unprepared drivers scratching their heads.

At the start of the next work week, February 23, two big closures could impact commuters heading into, or home from, the office. And they’ll be long term changes that will require some readjustments.

First, the entrance ramp onto westbound Loop 1604 at O’Connor Road – in between O’Connor and Bulverde roads on the Far Northeast Side – will be closed. While a new entrance ramp will take its place sometime in early June, drivers hoping to hop on the highway and head west will have to keep going down the access road past Bulverde Road before ramping up speed…
