[1] Proposed $30 million multi-purpose arena passes first hurdle in southern Colorado – A town in southern Colorado has approved a rezoning request for a proposed multi-million-dollar rodeo and religious arena. The roughly $30 million Pine Valley Arena is set to be located in Bayfield between Durango and Pagosa Springs. It’s expected to be more than 28,000 square feet, fit with warm-up pens, and seating for around 2,000 spectators.
[2] Carson National Forest restoration efforts continue following moth infections – Restoration efforts in the Carson National Park continue after a parasitic plant caused major damage. Nearly a decade ago, the state forestry signed a contract with the Carson National Forest to thin trees for wildfire mitigation. Since then, multiple invasive species have begun taking over and infecting the forest. While a severe outbreak of Douglas Fur Tussock Moths infected the trees, a rapidly growing ponderosa pine mistletoe also began invading. Crews are working against the winter elements in an effort to remove the canopies of downed trees.
