Pensacola coach sees ‘good’ in passing bill to allow personal spending on student-athletes

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — Legislation that would allow high school coaches to spend their own personal money on the well-being of student athletes has passed the Senate.

The “Teddy Bridgewater Act” would allow coaches to spend to up to $15,000 on student athletes. The bill would require spending to be reported to the Florida High School Athletic Association.

But spending can only go towards three things. These coaches would be allowed to use their own money on things, like food, transportation and recovery services for athletes…
