Consumer Alert: Spectrum customers targeted by discount scam in our community

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A scam targeting Spectrum customers has been reported in the community. Scammers are impersonating Spectrum representatives, promising a 50% discount on monthly bills.

The scam often starts with a phone call, email, or text message, officials said. The goal is to separate victims from their money. One News10NBC viewer, Ed Laughlin, received such a call but did not fall for it.

The scammer left a voicemail which said “Hi there. This voicemail is from Spectrum. Without your response, your 50 percent discount on a monthly bill will be removed today.” It directed the recipient to call a number with a Vermont area code, identified as potential spam…
