Man convicted of 2nd DWI after being found asleep behind wheel

A Fort Bend County jury in January convicted a League City man on his second charge of driving while intoxicated after Sugar Land police found him asleep behind the wheel of his car last March, according to a news release from the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office. Saquib Salim Sajwani, 39, was sentenced to probation.

According to Assistant District Attorney and lead prosecutor Gracie Mahoney, Sugar Land police were dispatched to a welfare check in the parking lot of a gas station near Sugar Creek on March 23, 2025. They discovered Sajwani asleep behind the wheel. Officers had to open the driver’s door and talk to the defendant multiple times in order to waken him, according to the release.

Sajwani appeared overtly intoxicated although he said he had only one drink an hour prior. He was barely able to complete a field sobriety evaluation, but consented to give a blood sample, which showed a .202 blood alcohol concentration, according to the release.
