Jackson State Men Finish Second, Women Ninth at SWAC Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Jackson State concluded the second day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Indoor Championships with the men’s team finishing in second place and the women in ninth, according to school officials.

The Tigers scored 97 points, trailing Texas Southern, which finished with 108 points. Jackson State earned medals through standout performances from Sedgwrick Pitts Jr. and Godfrey Kimutai. Pitts Jr. took silver in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.31 seconds, while Kimutai secured third place in the 1-mile race with a personal-best time of 4:20.75.

Kimutai’s time marked a personal record, and fellow athletes Eric Lagat and Collins Kibet also achieved personal bests in the mile, recording times of 4:26.54 and 4:27.52, respectively. Lagat also set a personal record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:27.68…
