This past summer, the Washington Post asked, “What’s the best sandwich in DC?” and broke the results into eleven categories. In the popular Philly cheesesteak category, the winner came from Maryland, specifically right here in Montgomery County. Soko Butcher in Takoma Park topped the list. Now, Soko is expanding across the river.
The neighborhood butcher shop and deli is opening a new location in Leesburg at 15 Loudoun Street, bringing its award-winning cheesesteak to Virginia. The shop is currently aiming for an early April opening and will offer indoor and outdoor seating along with an all-day happy hour. We are also hearing that an Arlington, Virginia location may be on the way as well.
In 2023, our very own “Mr. MoCo” released a list of favorite steak and cheese subs in the county, with Soko Butcher landing at the top. A limited-edition collaboration cheesesteak followed, further cementing the shop’s reputation. Washington Post readers later ranked Soko’s offering as the best Philly cheesesteak in the area…
