CARNUEL, N.M. (KRQE) – The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that one of their deputies has died after a traffic stop in the East Mountains. Details are limited, but BCSO said the incident started as a traffic stop near mile marker 170, which is about a mile west of Carnuel. A BCSO spokesperson confirmed a crash occurred. Just before 8 p.m. on Monday, BCSO confirmed the sergeant was killed in the line of duty. A KRQE News 13 crew saw a trailer of a semi-truck overturned in the median.
