Former UK Ambassador Peter Mandelson Arrested in Epstein Investigation
LONDON – Peter Mandelson, the former British ambassador to Washington, was arrested Monday as part of an ongoing investigation into his alleged connections with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest of a 72-year-old man on suspicion of “misconduct in public office.” While police did not officially name Mandelson, in line with protocol, television footage captured the veteran Labour Party politician being escorted from his North London residence by plainclothes officers around dusk. He was seen entering a waiting vehicle and was not handcuffed.
Authorities are reportedly investigating whether Mandelson, during his tenure as a UK Cabinet minister between 2008 and 2010, at the height of the global banking crisis, potentially shared confidential government information with Epstein.
This development marks the latest in a series of investigations into prominent figures in the United Kingdom over their suspected dealings with Epstein. Just four days prior, police arrested and subsequently released former Prince Andrew in an Epstein-related inquiry, using similar language regarding an unnamed individual suspected of misconduct in public office.
Neither Mandelson nor the former prince has commented on the specific allegations, and no charges have been filed against either individual.
Recent Epstein files released by the U.S. Justice Department reportedly contain email exchanges purportedly between Mandelson and Epstein.
It is important to note that Mandelson has not been accused of sexual misconduct. Efforts to reach him for comment late Monday were unsuccessful.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
