Cleveland travelers head to Mexico amid turmoil

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Violence has broken out across Mexico after a military operation killed a cartel leader. The U.S. has issued a shelter in place alert for Americans in some areas of the country. But flights are still taking off from Cleveland Hopkins and headed to Mexico.

At 6 a.m. Monday, a Frontier Airlines flight left from Cleveland Hopkins, headed to Cancun, Mexico. We spoke with people who were taking the flight out who say they are aware of the turmoil in Mexico, but that it’s not stopping them from going.

“We are headed to Cancun,” said Vicki Baker of Avon.  Baker is headed to Mexico for a medical conference. “I got a little update on my phone about it, but I don’t have real concerns,” she added. “I also checked where we’re going and it seems to be pretty safe.”
