A Wind Advisory is in effect beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday for central South Carolina and portions of east central Georgia, according to the National Weather Service Columbia. Drivers along Interstates 20 and 26 could experience sudden wind gusts up to 40 mph, creating hazardous crosswinds through 10 p.m.
The advisory includes Columbia and surrounding Midlands communities, as well as parts of the Central Savannah River Area. Northwest winds are expected to increase to 15 to 25 mph, with gusts exceeding 40 mph at times throughout the day.
Hazardous Travel and Local Impacts
In the Midlands, including Lexington, Cayce, and West Columbia, strong gusts could snap tree limbs and send lightweight outdoor objects into roadways. In the CSRA, cities such as Augusta, Evans, and Martinez may see unsecured patio furniture and trash bins become airborne.
High-profile vehicles traveling on open stretches of I-20 near Aiken and along U.S. 1 could struggle with sudden crosswinds, particularly during peak afternoon hours.
