WAYNESVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — An artist from Durham has been selected to create a new mural for downtown Waynesville, a project that will spotlight key moments from the town’s past.
Artist Max Dowdle shared his preliminary mural design with Waynesville leaders on Monday, Feb. 23. The mural is planned for 121 N. Main St. and will highlight Waynesville’s history, including the original Gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains.
“It’s going to have many scenes from the history of Waynesville; there’s a picture from World War I, some people from the late 1800’s. There’s the opening of the Gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains.
