The Cherokee County Magistrate Court, working with the Office of the Solicitor-General and other county entities, is preparing to launch a new program designed to resolve family violence cases more efficiently, give victims and defendants better access to counseling and other services and reduce the numbers of repeat offenses.
Beginning March 2, the Family Violence Diversion Program will be an option available to eligible defendants in some domestic violence cases.
“This pretrial diversion program will serve select, low-risk, first-time family violence cases and is the first of its kind in Cherokee County,” Chief Magistrate Judge Jack “Trey” Goodwin III told the Tribune. “It is intended to provide eligible defendants earlier access to treatment and intervention services, while helping resolve cases more efficiently.”…
