New MSCS audits show discrepancies, including unchecked payroll logs, unauthorized stipends

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two state audits, released by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office in January, show discrepancies in some of the spending and bookkeeping within Memphis Shelby County Schools.

The audits show findings from July 2024 to June 2025.

In one audit, it said employees who were terminated were still on the district’s payroll. In part, it said, ‘Timesheets were improperly approved, resulting in additional payments being made to terminated employees.”…
