MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Visitors at New Park Memorial Gardens discovered damaged tombstones Monday morning after a vehicle drove between and on top of gravesites, destroying at least several markers.
Jamese Pride said she learned about the damage on Facebook and went to the cemetery to check on her brother’s gravesite.
“So it kind of bothered me so I hurry up and got up and came down here because my little brother is down here and even though his stuff is not messed up it still is like a feeling don’t nobody want to have,” Pride said.
Families concerned about cost of repairs
Pride said many families paid for the memorials out of pocket and may not be able to recover those costs.
“People don’t have insurance so a lot of people insurance money did not pay for this. That’s coming out of these people pocket,” she said…
