High surf advisory for San Luis Obispo beaches

The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory for San Luis Obispo County Beaches and Santa Barbara County Central Coast Beaches. The advisory is in effect until 9 PM PST Tuesday, February 23. Waves are expected to reach 6 to 12 feet, especially on northwest-facing beaches.

Strong rip currents and large breaking waves will create dangerous conditions for swimmers, surfers, and small boats. People are advised to stay out of the water and away from rocks or jetties. Lifeguard towers will be staffed, and visitors should remain near them if visiting the beach…
