AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Near-record to record-breaking heat combined with strong winds will create critical fire weather conditions Tuesday across the Southern High Plains.
A Red Flag warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST for much of the region, including the southwest Texas Panhandle and eastern New Mexico. Dry fuels, low humidity and gusty winds will increase the risk of rapid wildfire growth.
Winds are expected to blow from the west at 15 to 25 mph, with gusts between 30 and 40 mph possible, especially across eastern New Mexico communities such as Clayton, Clovis, Portales and Tucumcari.
