Medina police wrote twice as many parking tickets in 2025 than the year before. Here’s why.

MEDINA, Ohio — Medina police wrote more than twice as many parking tickets in 2025 than in the previous two years, a surge the chief says has a simple answer: the hiring of a dedicated parking enforcement officer.

According to the Medina Police Department’s 2025 annual report, the department issued 1,550 parking citations last year, compared with 741 in 2024 and 608 in 2023.

“We didn’t have a parking attendant on staff the year before,” Medina Police Chief Ed Kinney told cleveland.com in an email. “Once we were able to hire one, of course, the number of tickets issued went up.”…
