Alabama A&M mourns trustee and alumnus John Hackett Jr.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Alabama A&M University is grieving the passing of John Hackett Jr., a proud alumnus, devoted leader and longtime District 7 member of the AAMU Board of Trustees.

A Birmingham native, Hackett graduated from Alabama A&M in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in building construction engineering. He often spoke warmly of his student days on “The Hill,” a testament to a lifelong devotion to his alma mater and its mission of educational excellence.

Hackett served as president of the Alabama A&M University National Alumni Association from 2012 to 2014, strengthening alumni engagement and institutional support. Those who knew him described his leadership as humble, dedicated and deeply committed to the University’s future…
