Man accused of beating woman after Matthews road rage incident

MATTHEWS, N.C. — A Charlotte man was arrested after police say he followed a woman for several miles following a road rage dispute and then beat her with a collapsible baton after she parked her car, Matthews police said.

James Washer, 61, was taken into custody at his home on Monday and faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and injury to personal property, according to the Matthews Police Department.

The attack occurred on Saturday evening on Chesney Glen Drive. The victim told officers that a man had followed her for several miles after an earlier verbal road rage confrontation.
