‘Seemed like forever’: Michiganders in Mexico sheltering in place

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Michiganders in Mexico are continuing to shelter in place after Sunday’s cartel violence.

Mexican authorities killed Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, the country’s most powerful drug cartel, sparking widespread retaliation from the group.

6 News received photos and videos from people around the Puerto Vallarta area showing the damage.

Berl Schwartz, who spends half of the year living in the area, says the skies that are usually clear and sunny are now filled with grey smoke. He says on Sunday morning he began receiving texts from a friend nearby, warning about people speeding by on motorcycles and setting cars, buses, and businesses on fire…
