George Jenkins, McKeel wrestling win district IBT titles

When George Jenkins tied the FHSAA Class 3A, District 5 boys wrestling tournament with Plant City last Thursday at George Jenkins High School, no one really knew how to determine an actual winner.

But George Jenkins head wrestling coach Gavin Osborn had to do a little digging, eventually conferring with FHSAA administrator Corey Sobers. And it was revealed that there really isn’t any tiebreaking criteria, and ultimately the shared district title between George Jenkins and Plant City still stood. So, George Jenkins and Plant City were the winners with 219.5 points, while Davenport (144.5), Winter Haven (140), Ridge Community (85), Bartow (79) and Haines City (58) rounded out the top seven.

With George Jenkins winning, it’s the Eagles sixth district IBT title in program history (96, 04, 15,16, 25 and 26) and back-to-back championships for the program…
