Woman who drowned in BREC pond identified as 35-year-old, no foul play suspected

A woman who drowned in a BREC conservation area off Hooper Road on Friday has been identified as 35-year-old Emily Cain, the Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office confirmed.

Cain was rescued from a pond at the Blackwater Conservation Area, where she had been swimming before dawn along with another man.

When firefighters with the Central Fire Department responded, Cain had been retrieved from the water by her companion but was unresponsive. The pair was found on an island in the pond…
